What do you look for in a potential partner? Dreamy blue eyes? A dress sense to die for? How about a soft spot for our environment? Believe it or not, more and more people are picking their partners based on their meat-eating habits. Don’t believe us? Take a look at this.

Plate for the Planet, a group of like-minded organisations, have been on a mission to get to the bottom of why us Brits are going gooey-eyed over environmentalists. Their study found that nearly 60% of Brits surveyed would choose to date a veggie over a meat eater, and nearly three quarters of women admitted that they wish their partner would eat less meat.

Faith Allen, a charity recruitment coordinator from Essex, agrees that eating sustainably is definitely a turn on for her. She said, “I’ve heard about plenty of guys in the past who only care about the car they drive, the money they earn, or what label they’re wearing, but that’s not sexy to me. It shows a selfless attitude if a guy cares about the planet and how his behaviour is going to affect the future of the planet – after all, it’s our children and future generations who are going to have to live in it”.

But it's not just the dating world where we're getting picky. That same study showed that a quarter of people find planet-conscious celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Arnold Schwarzenegger more attractive, purely because they've taken a stand against eating meat.

So you've heard it here first. When it comes to ramping up the romance, you can forget about the dozen long-stem roses, and you can ditch those cheesy pick-up lines. All you need is an ethical mind, and a meat free meal for two. Get your coat, you've pulled.
